Well, Superquinn are putting it up to Tesco and coming out very well in some respects – their offers this week include half price chicken, which at 1.7kg for €3.74 well outweighs the Tesco 1.5kg 2 for €10 offer. Similarly, in the sirloin steak price war, Superquinn are coming out on top at €10.04 per kilo, compared to €11.65 per kilo over at Every Little Helps. Having said that, if you’re a pork lover, stick to Tescos, as their pork is €1.19 cheaper per kilo during this latest round of special offers.
Among the more romantic offerings are champagne at €19.99, flowers from €4.99 to €49.99 (I’d bet the bunch in the photograph is on the upper end of that scale!) and weirdly, 
heart-shaped strawberry punnets (the plastic, not the strawberries, we haven’t reached those dizzying heights of genetic modification just yet) at 2 for €6.
There’s a bloody good meal deal offer too, although it doesn’t include wine like many of the others do; choose one main course from such foods as Beef Steaks, Beef Burgers, Marylands and Part-Boned Chicken Breasts, add a side and dessert, for just €8. Not bad going at all – dinner for less than the price of a cinema ticket?
